Special Issue Information(Call for Papers)
Dear Colleagues,
Increasing underwater structures have been installed in rivers and the ocean in the past decades for transportation and extracting resources and energy. The safety of these structures is one of the biggest challenges, especially in deep water. Local scour of sediment around underwater structures is one of the greatest culprits that cause structural failure. Scour is a hazard of many hydraulic structures like bride piers, bridge abutments, subsea foundations, pipelines, wind farms, wave energy devices, etc. The extension of offshore engineering towards deep water makes protecting structures from scour more difficult than ever. In addition, regional scour and coastal erosion are also big hazards to coastal structures.
To protect structures from scour, fundamental mechanisms of scour must be fully understood, and many studies have been conducted to understand how the scour happens and develops. Some protection techniques have also been developed and implemented. However, the scour protection designs are often either overly conservative or unsafe, especially when structures are geometrically complex. Comprehensive studies on scour through advanced experimental and numerical studies are necessary.
This special issue aims to publish articles that highlight the innovative research on scour and sedimentation. We welcome research articles on but not limited to the following topics:
· Scour around bridge piers and abutments
· Scour around hydraulic structures
· Scour at end sill and J-Hooke vanes
· Scour around subsea structures
· Marine and coastal sediment transport
· Coastal erosion
· Scour protection
Manuscripts should be submitted online at https://ojs.bilpublishing.com/index.php/hsme by registering and logging in to this website or sent an e-mail to hsme@bilpublishing.com for consultation. All articles will be peer-reviewed and research articles, review articles and short communications will also be considered.
